Puntarenas is a city in Costa Rica, and capital of the canton of Puntarenas and the province of Puntarenas, the largest in the country. It is the largest and most populated city in the Costa Rican Pacific.
At present, its easy access from the Central Valley continues to allow it to retain its status as a tourist center, especially among Costa Ricans, although the remodeling of the main dock allows cruise ship docking and this in turn generates the incursion of national and foreign tourists.
